How To Build A Campfire

Follow these steps to quickly and safely build a contained fire for warmth, cooking, and socializing:

1)  Clear the campfire area of all debris.  Avoid areas with overhanging branches.  Use a fire ring when available.

2)  Loosely pile a handful of tinder (small twigs, wood shavings, etc.) in your fire ring, and ignite.  Gently blow at the base of the fire to help the flame spread into the tinder.

3)  Once the flame takes hold, begin adding small kindling (small sticks).  Be sure to allow spaces between the sticks for air flow.

4) Add larger sticks/logs, one piece at a time, until your fire reaches the desired size.  Add logs as needed to maintain thedcp00591.JPG campfire.

BE SURE TO COMPLETELY EXTINGUISH YOUR CAMPFIRE USING GENEROUS AMOUNTS OF WATER OR DIRT. Remember, only YOU can prevent out-of-control fires!
