J.P. Coleman State Park, Iuka, MS (Pickwick Lake)

J.P. Coleman State Park is located 13 miles outside of Iuka, MS about six miles from the Tennessee state line at Pickwick Lake.  The campground and marina are located directly on Pickwick Lake.  The park offer a marina and a lodge but no restaurant for the lodge.  The park is perched on a rocky bluff overlooking the Tennessee River.  The park offers excellent swimming, skiing, and fishing for smallmouth bass.  Coleman has a swimming pool, cabins, boat storage, picnic areas, and plenty of rattlesnakes.  One little boy camping with his family was bitten by a “baby” rattler that had crawled into his tent.  We came across a 5-6 footer simply crossing one of the roads in the campground.

We camped on site #48.  The campground offers 50 amp service, water and sewer hookups.  Cell phone coverage was only fair.  I would suggest that you be careful when choosing a site.  Most all of the sites are not level.  Never choose #50.  It is so unlevel that even auto-leveling will not work properly.  I honestly think that site #49 is the very best.
